About the translator
Korean–English translation for legal and business documents, drawing on a lifetime moving between the two languages — not something learned for the job.

I translate legal and business documents, drawing on growing up between Korean and English. Here’s a bit more about how I got here.

Freelance translator in Korea
I was raised in Canada, where Korean was the language at home and English was the language of everywhere else — school, friends, the rest of my life. That early back-and-forth is probably the real reason I ended up translating: I was doing it, informally, long before I had a word for it.
I moved to Korea in July 2026, trading a life where Korean was the language I spoke at home for one where it’s the language of everything — the street, the bank, the government office, all of it.
Since then, Korean hasn’t been a language I studied from the outside — it’s one I live in, day to day, the same way English is.
일하는 기준
Principles
Accuracy
정확성
Everything in the original is carried over, and nothing is added. Ambiguous wording is raised with you, never interpreted on a guess.
Consistency
일관성
Key terms are settled before translation begins, so defined terms and recurring phrases read the same throughout the document.
Confidentiality
기밀성
NDAs are arranged on request, and files are kept only as long as the work requires. Documents clients provide, and their translations, are never shown in this portfolio without consent.
